Dan 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
There's an important message from the book of Daniel. Like the times we face now, the message here is that we should spend less time wondering when future events will happen and more time learning how we should live now.
Daniel, which means "God is judge" was faithful. And right off the bat we see that eight verses into the first Chapter.
Daniel did not compromise, we see the word purposed, some translations use the word resolved. Both reach the meaning of devoted to principle and to be committed to a course of action.
It reminds me of the current events in this Nation's past election. Many did give into pressures in whom they wanted for President. Not judging their decision on one's character and theological understandings of God's will, verses liberal standards of the world. Did many compromise?
This is a question many will have to someday face over a simple vote they casted in this election even. Its no doubt many did compromise, no matter how they wish to justify it. That justification was the clue they should have recognized before they made their decision.
Separated from Jerusalem and his own spiritual culture nonetheless he continued to worship God faithfully. Without the support structure of our friends, local church, would you remain faithful to God as Daniel did?
Well done good and faithful servant is a important appraisal that requires a stance. In the first Chapter of Daniel we see his dare to stand. Read it I'm sure your see the same thing. Our stance in Christ and trusting in the Lord is ever so evident for now and our upcoming future. Christ's return is surely so near.
Obedience when we don't have to, could be where we have been. Now I believe the test will come, pressures all around us. But its good to remember our struggle is not against flesh and blood. We need to know and realize that the enemy will be using all avenues to distract us and get our focus off of Christ. Thru people, world events, and even thru the slightest of compromises. For he knows his time is short.
Just as the story of the talents, we have been entrusted with His Light.
With times like they are now we are to stand firm and shine it. Trusting in Him, that trust has a foundation based on being faithful, never compromising for things that are of the world.
Mat 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
